Topic:

Facebook | Ashley Greenspan: Michael Vick Reality Show Sponsors E-Mail and Boycott.

I’m not going to defend Vick and his actions, but I find it so absurd that people will now start a Facebook group to boycott sponsors of a show just because the show features someone who has committed a crime in the past.

Maybe we should start boycott’s against every entertainer who in their career has committed some crime and been punished for it.

Point 1: Why are you boycotting the sponsor’s and not the show itself?

This line in particular is so absurd: “Please e-mail the sponsors of the Michael Vick Reality Show and express your opposition to their financial support of the program.”

If no one watches the show there will be no sponsors that sign up for it.

Point 2: Where are your values?

If you are Judeo-Christian or simply believe in the simple act of forgiveness, then why are you supporting this boycott?

The guy committed the crime, did the time, and is now trying to rehabilitate his image. Don’t you want the man to succeed and become a better person? Or do you simply want to knock him back down to a point where his only option is to go and commit crime so that you can say “See, I told you so!”.

  • Flashier Great Tit Birds Produce Stronger Sperm.

Really? It took how many millions to conduct this study?? Who authorized it and why were birds used instead of human males who drink 6 packs of beer and lounge for 4 hours in front of TV sets?

You know it’s time to stop preaching when you’re old and you make comments like this. But then again, what would we do for entertainment?

  • How a Web Design Goes Straight to Hell – The Oatmeal.

Really funny and sadly true stories of how great web designs get perverted into something less optimum. I’ve seen stuff happen similar to this comic but not quite by the same people. In some cases by people with a lot of money and big egos.

  • Jellyfish.com notified it’s users today via email that they will be shutting down their Smackshopping portal  effective Feb 16th. With the rise in popularity of Swoopo.com looks like Smackshopping has lost it’s appeal. I always wondered how Jellyfish could maintain a user base on anything other than their once a day contests.

    Here is the official notice:

    Dear SmackShopping User,

Thank you for using SmackShopping and participating in the SmackShopping community over the past few years. Regrettably, we are closing down the site effective February 16, 2009. SmackShows, chats and other interactive SmackShopping services will be discontinued at this point. However, you will be able to redeem any coins you have accrued for 90 days (until May 15, 2009). At the end of 90 days the site will be brought down completely.

Please do not reply to this email, but if you have any questions, please contact us at questions@smackshopping.com.

    Sincerely,
    SmackShopping Team

  • So much for a robust telephone (land and cell) infrustructure. 5.8 Earthquake hits, I’m 29 miles West of it at the office and I can’t get through to my family at home. Tried the regular phone line at the office… negative. Tried my cell phone with T-Mobile and no luck. Even tried the company issues Sprint Blackberry… no service.

L.A. Times is reporting that state officials are asking the public to not use the phone so that emergency calls can get through. Typical government statements. Our infrastructure sucks, so don’t use it. When will we fix it? By the next earthquake, maybe, if funds are available, if companies expand their infrastructure by spending lots of money and going into the red, etc. Chances of it happening? – none.

Glad to see that in times of emergency we can rely on our infrustructure to do absolutely nothing for us. Maybe I should go back to CB and HAM radio.

  • Facebook Phishers

I knew it. I knew that all these recent “friend requests” on Facebook from people I completely don’t know are bogus. I received two requests within a couple of weeks from women I don’t know and have no common friends with. I then received another request from an Agent person in New York that has over 600 contacts. The latter may be a legitimate person who is simply trying to build up his network similar to what recruiters have been doing on LinkedIn.

I was very suspect about the first two requests which I have ignored (a Facebook option). Now comes word that these requests could be from people trying to create fake profiles so that they could sell them on EBay. As reported by an article in ValleyWag yesterday an EBay user is trying to sell 10 fake profiles from Facebook each containing 200+ friends. See the full story: http://valleywag.com/5015883/facebook-profiles-for-sale-on-ebay

It looks like the items have since been pulled off of EBay. Did Facebook contact EBay and have the items removed? Did the person who created the items simply get a mass amount of negative feedback and remove the items? How many other people are out there doing the same thing and building up a Spam database that they can sell to others without even selling the actual Profile?
